Death Cab Directions – Update

Update on the Postal Service Apple video….
Message from Ben Gibbard (Death cab for Cutie, The Postal Service)
It has recently come to our attention that Apple Computers’ new television commercial for the Intel chip features a shot-for-shot recreation of our video for ‘Such Great Heights’ made by the same filmmakers responsible for the original. We did not approve this commercialization and are extremely disappointed with both parties that this was executed without our consultation or consent.

Tut tut tut…
But still, read some funny but harsh comments by real people.
Hawthorne Heights – Saying Sorry
Do it! Its not staying up forever…
Apple Steal Another Video Idea..

Apple seem to of stolen there video idea for the new Intel Chips inside its computers from a video by the band The Postal Service (One of my fave bands!), and their video Such Great Heights. Which you can see here and compare with the new Apple add here..
Or if you don’t want to do that you can head over here where someone has nicely made some comparison screenshots and a video comparison of the two together..
There is talk of the same directors, then that was ruled out, talk of being ripped off footage from THX.
O well.. I think they are both pretty good anyway

Apple now have Intel Inside
Ive been watching the live update from Macworld San Francisco, and apart from a new version of iLife being released, it now is a real fact that Apple have Intel inside them..
Following stats are on the lowest of the two upgrades..
iMacs are now armed with 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor with 2MB shared L2 cache.
Check all stats here
Powerbooks have 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo processor with 2MB shared L2 Cache. Oh and the name has stupidly been changed to MacBook Pro.. Pffft..
It also has a built in iSite camera
Check all stats here
iLife- (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand etc) has also been updated.. Now with a new App called ‘iWeb’. Use iWeb to create websites, blogs, and podcasts — complete with photos, movies, and music
Prolly a whole load of pissed off people who have just bought one of the new iMacs (came out less than a month ago i think), now they go and upgrade the buggers again!
O well.. Apple are always doing that

AFI – Between 80 and 100 new songs!
Hell yeah!
But of course, you wont be hearing all of them on their upcomming album now will you? No..
“We ended up writing somewhere between 80 and 100 songs,” frontman Davey Havok said. “Really!” he continued, when challenged about the sum. “I have lyric books full and full of complete songs. It was crazy. We just kept writing and writing and writing … it’s been a long process and it was a bit excessive.”
In the end, AFI whittled those 80 to 100 cuts down to 22, and ended up recording just 14 when they hit the studio with producer Jerry Finn (Blink-182, Rancid). Twelve of those will end up on the record. And when fans of the act have a chance to hear the finished product, what they’ll get is a “sophisticated, melodic” opus that’ll please even old-school AFI followers.
“There are a few tracks that are really aggressive and have — dare I say — pretty heavy hardcore leanings,”à la 1997′s Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, Havok said. “There are just a few — by no means is the record weighted in that direction. But there are definitely some hardcore moments on there.

TLOD – The Quiet Screaming
‘The Legion Of Doom’ Mashed up a song which was titled ‘The Quiet Screaming’.. DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL vs BRAND NEW.. You may of heard it, if not then you can grab it from their site, or just click here..
I’ve talked about TLOD before, there album ‘Incorporated’ is still caught up in complicated legal arrangements, and we still have no release date for it, but its going to be awesome when it finally does come out, if your into that sort of thing..
Anyway, back to the point.. ‘The Quiet Screaming’ is two songs mashed into one, Screaming Infidelities by Dashboard, and The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows by Brand New..
Someone clever has now taken the two video’s of those singles and mashed those together to the TLOD track.. And you can check that out over here.. It pretty good..
Someone has also mixed their newest track ‘Home Invasion Robbery’ and mashed it with Opus III, to come up with ‘It’s a Fine Day for a Home Invasion Robbery’ (From the Saw 2 OST). You can grab that one here if you like as well..
Death Cab Directions..
Here is an extract from a press release for Death Cab For Cutie’s “Directions”, an anthology of twelve short films for every song off of their grammy nominated album, Plans. Each video will debut on the band’s website starting very soon.
Death Cab For Cutie Unveil “Directions”; 12 Original Short Films By The Band’s Grammy Nominated Album “Plans”.
Atlantic Records’ Death Cab for Cutie has announced details of their upcoming “DIRECTIONS,” an innovative anthology of 12 short films inspired by each song on the band’s acclaimed album PLANS. Every song, including the hit single “Soul Meets Body” and the upcoming follow-up “Crooked Teeth,” will be delivered by a different director. The videos will be unveiled one by one on the band’s website www.deathcabforcutie.com in early January.
The unprecedented collection came about as the brainchild of otaku-house, the production company owned and run by childhood friends Nick Harmer, bassist for Death Cab for Cutie, and video director Aaron Stewart-Ahn. They saw the opportunity to enlist a variety of talented young artists to each make a short film set to a Death Cab song, without the constraints of the traditional music video – no arbitrary performance footage, the band themselves would not appear in the films. Though the budgets would be small, there would be no creative limits placed upon the filmmakers’ imaginations. The ultimate goal was to create a series of small films that worked together as both individual pieces of art and as a unified whole.
Stewart-Ahn and the band compiled a list of directors, including superstars, up-and-coming new talents, and even a graphic novelist who had never had his work animated before. “We named the project ‘DIRECTIONS,’” says Stewart-Ahn, “because it’s a pun on ‘PLANS,’ obviously, but ultimately because we feel this project is about unique directorial visions more than anything else. We wanted to create a situation where that would be the emphasis, and I feel the list of directors alone proves that.”
