I got a 50mm prime recently, not had much of a chance to play with it as I’m struggling to fit things in as i’m used to having the 18-55 range with the kit lens i’ve been using. Trying to force myself to just keep this lens on now though, i am the zoom :)
I’ve aways really liked the out of focus when it’s not the main focus of the picture effect, or Bokeh for it’s technical term. So i’m really glad i can get a great effect with this lens at 1.4.

This was just a quick shot of some Evening Standard newspapers on top of an electricity box on my walk to the station this evening. The traffic and building in the background are fantastic source of light for the Bokeh in this shot, and it came out so much better than i was hoping for.

Having to edit on just my Macbook’s screen this evening as I’m out of the house, away from my 24″ screen, so a lot harder to touch the pics up!
i tried to brighten just the paper using Aperture’s masks, but cant get straight enough lines using the trackpad, so apart from a slight Vignette the picture’s pretty much as it came out of the camera.
